ILLNESS: HEY. I'm chronically ill. My illness and medications mess with my writing functions, so please just let me know if I send you a garbled tag. It happens. I also have flareups sometimes, and drop off the earth abruptly sometimes. Sorry in advance. BACKTAGGING: I will totally backtag! I will drop a thread if I lose the sense of movement in it, but if there was something you wanted to accomplish in a thread just ping me and remind me, that will help me get on track again. FOURTHWALLING: No. THREADJACKING: Cool as long as it's not marked private/locked/etc. OFF LIMITS: I am unsquickable in response to text. If you want to get weird or nasty, just give me a heads up that we're heading down to crazyville so that we are on the same page.
β IC: NAME: V SEASON: Autumn CANON: Devil May Cry 5 CANON POINT: Pursuing Urizen into the Qliphoth
CLOTHES:Pinboard. Black and grey Autumn appropriate clothes. You can only see a little bit of his tattoos around his hands and his neck. SPECIES:Human Scary spider-bird faerie GENDER: Male AGE: Appears to be in his 20s. Is about 3 years old, and has been in the Hedge almost all of that time. HEIGHT: 6'2" (190 cm) but he's a tired slouchy boy, he doesn't look quite that tall unless you stand him up straight. BUILD: Long, lanky HAIR: Black Hair (Except when it's silver) EYES:Green Black VOICE: Sonorous, languid, throaty. Sometimes he does the William Shatner and draws things out for no discernible reason other than to be dramatic. Hope you're ready for dramatic poetry readings. [ All V Cutscenes ]
β MAJOR: * Arachnitaur body β Uses his tattoos to bind his spider form. Mostly appears bipedal with black hair and black tattoos. Unbound, white hair and no tattoos; spider body. * Lantern tail β A plaited, prehensile paper tail with a lantern at the tip.
He is expected to record day-to-day observations for the library, both his own and that of anyone else who requests it, and while all of Autumn's servants have a chance of finding themselves waking up in random places around the library, complete with ink-stained fingertips, V will find himself in this position much more often than the rest.
π Actually likes the Whisper.
π Was once a half-demon named Vergil. Vergil cut himself into human and demon halves with a magic sword. Vergil was also once remade into a demonic soldier called Nelo Angelo, it was some gross physical body horror/torture and subverted his will. Being with the Gentry and being remade as Spider V is unfortunately something he's familiar with. He's not really pleased about it because V's desire for independence is Stronk. But V thinks there's some power in taking what magic he can and thinks there may be a route to autonomy through that which might not even necessarily involve Escape.
π Vergil's house was burned down with his mother inside when the king of hell attacked their home because he was mad about yanno half-breed babies. Demons tried to hunt him down, and he's had to be in charge of defending himself ever since. While V is in to team work and relationships, he's also not really over the fact that you need to have the ability to survive in yourself first and foremost before you're of use to anyone else. And he very much cares about what use others might be to him. He's a schemer.
π In that vein, was definitely about 'quit your whining and fight back' during the Hunt, attacked and fought a lot of hounds on his own or in pairs with others. Left you alone if you didn't even try to fight back, so he has a weak spot. He doesn't take any pleasure in victimizing the innocent.
π Has some cute ferrets that I will indiscriminately use to force any interaction. Mostly V benefits emotionally from a pet companion that helps ground his human compassion. On the other hand, he can also be pragmatic to a fault and no ferrets will change that about him.
π Loves poetry and verse, language, knowledge, and magic. One of his advanced spells is a combination of all these things: written runes that he uses to compress and express language visually. He is an academic at heart, but one with a restless streak that longs for problems to solve and enemies to fight.
π Hence why he's a shit stirrer. He will enable stupid ideas for the lulz and just to see what happens. Is always the first to say "do it coward" in a confrontation where he thinks you're bluffing. Taunting is also a mechanic of DMC, and he will... be a dick just to get you riled up.
* V's Cane. * A brown, gold-embroidered book, containing poems by William Blake, with a large "V" insignia in the cover. * Handful of change for the pay phone.
* His journals full of poems and secrets, written in his runes. * A collection of fancy quills made from many different feathers, bones, teeth, etc. * Lots and lots of jewelry. * A violin. * Clothes. * A red crystal apple in a locked box with blue velvet lining. He wears the key around his neck. * The usual bits and bobs for playing around with a bit of basic alchemy. * Silver bird skull. * A toy soldier that Dante took from Vergil and subsequently broke when they were children. * Silver bowie knife.
* Runes β Can compress language into runes. Only other Autumns with the right skills can translate them in full, but anyone can look at one of his runes and feel like maybe they understand the idea of it. He especially likes to do this with poetry. Gazing on a rune of poetry gives one the sense of whatever emotions that poem tried to convey. This can either be delightful or horrifying. Also conserves a great deal of paper when he's writing down everyone's secrets ;)
* Runes in ink blood β Using his own fancy new ink blood, V can activate simple runes that take on the attributes they describe. They can either be written where he wants to use them (Lock directly on a desk drawer) or they can be lifted from where they were written and used (Shield or Sharp for COMBAT purposes). [limitations]
* Rune translation β Physically touching a written language allows him to automatically write it into his own runes. He doesn't know what he's writing until he is finished, and has to touch all of the letters to rewrite them. Very literal translations.
* Shapeshifting (Arachnid) β His tattoos now bind his major arachnid change. When bound, he has the usual bipedal look with black hair & tattoos. When unbound, he has a taur body with silver hair & no tattoos.
* Stealth / Elemental Transformation β By touching a shadow, he can meld into it and subsequently walk through wherever it is unbroken by light. Getting blasted out by light really hurts and disorients him.
* Stealth / Mind β Turns the ferrets into slinky little forward scouts who can report back to V on what they see and hear. Is activated selectively, lest he start acting like a ferret himself.
* Not only do his runes surpass mere language, they are now a versatile vector for magical intention. While versatile, his specialization is grounded by very physical needs: ink and paper.
* When written in his own blood, his runes can take on the traits they represent. This now includes animate traits-- ink familiars, as it were.
* The durability of his blood and paper for this process remains a limiter for what can be accomplished. The ink dissipates fairly quickly when active with magic. This will be V's own problem to research and solve.
* He has control over the magic writing on his body, and can use that for a passive buff. (For example, defense +5 or something like that.) He also has a set of writing on his tail.
* I will take this opportunity to improve the accuracy and nuance of his translations, but he is still bound by the physical need to touch a text to translate it.
* The memory of where he entered the Hedge from the Qliphoth Tree's roots. * Older servant memory loss summary:
It wasn't very difficult for him to begin bartering. He had already played that game before. Gaze into the darkest depths of Vergil's mind: receive magic and power. Now it was merely the opposite. Take your gaze away from these things: and we'll see what we can do. At first, he cared a great deal about keeping hold of his mission to defeat Urizen and reunite into Vergil. He played the game carefully.
As the dampening took effect, however, he became less careful. He longed less and less for the company of his familiars, and for his original form. So he traded those things away for new magic. He wanted power, even as he forgot exactly why. The most traumatic memory that needed time to be dampened was the memory of being unmade and made again as Nelo Angelo. Until that memory became soft and pliant, he found the changes to his body and mind disturbing; being remade again by yet another master. With the panic turned pliant, it is now simply familiar to him. His body as a servant will be his fourth form. He remembers them all, but the intensity and violence with which several of them were created has finally been removed.
V's clearest memories of his very short time in the human realm are the ones he cared about the most: The time in the van with Nero and Nico where he could almost have pretended he was just a member of their demon-hunting crew, and a friend at that. Sometimes he forgets that isn't true, but who's here to tell him he's wrong?
He retains many of Vergil's memories. The most faded is the childhood which, of course, after 40 years had also become a bit faded for Vergil before him. The constancy of Dante remains vibrant, even as other things become blurry. His twin, his beloved other half, his most hated rival. Urizen lingers just as perniciously in V's nightmares, the dark other half that is always trying to consume him. As they were a huge part of Vergil's life, V retains many secrets about demons, demon magic, the Hells, their kings, and their armies.
For the most part, V is now a rather good servant. He likes not being in the Hells, and he especially likes being able to pursue magic for himself. These things motivate him in his willingness to give away memories now that the worst of it has gone blurry and dull.
* [something for that time he died] * The first team up with both familiars against nightmare Phantom. * His (Vergil's) first lesson in swordsmanship with his father. * The Legendary Devil Sword Sparda. * The sound of Eva's voice.
