* QUEST ASSIGNMENT: (Screened) Link. * QUEST LOG:Link. * QUEST OBJECTIVE: Go learn some theory about magic in Fellden from a Professor at the University! * QUEST REWARD: V will now have access to Professor Havilliard as a point of contact at the University! While he doesn't teach magic–only theory–he'll be usable as an NPC going forward for V and, if enough trust is built, a valuable asset in V's assignment to stop the summoning ceremony. In addition, V will receive a spell tome for his personal library, however it will only be readable to him! Once V reads the book in its entirety, he'll have learned Counterspell and will begin at the Novice level with the opportunity to work up from there. The spell will allow him to cancel out the spell of another as they're casting it, however there are some limitations: V may only cancel out magic of the same level (Novice spells only until he levels up from practice), may only use the spell once per day, and his target must be within reasonable sight! This spell requires a hand movement to activate. This spell will be opt-in to other PCs but will work against NPCs with similarly low-level magic. It can be upgraded using blessings or future quest rewards! His impact rank will also increase from 1 to 2 and will be granted a title on the Impact Pantheon.
Magic/mana flows outward from Fellden to Otherworlds. Oftentimes that mana also comes back into Fellden like a great cycle of life!
Q: What is the basic form of Fellden's magic, its basic state. A: Particles to be moved and manipulated. Magic works at the atomic level.
Magic also flows throughout Fellden and its inhabitants. It's been verified by another Otherworlder (The Commander/Syrlya) that when magic is taken from the world, less of it returns, hence the decay of the world. The larger the amount of magic used, the less returns.
Q: Expound upon what determines whether or not the magic returns, if known. Will accept theories. A: Unknown. Three theories! One: Magic is being consumed by the world to live, thus preventing it all from returning. Two: Magic is being funneled away by someone or something but in amounts that make it nigh impossible to trace. Three: People who use magic are absorbing that small amount instead of releasing all of it back into the atmosphere.
The cycle of magic used to be in perfect balance–or close to it!–but has grown more unbalanced the longer the war has gone on. The decay of the world/loss of magic speeds up as the years pass and has reached a new high in its loss. This is thought to be due to a combination of the summoning ceremony, the draw of magic on the world by the number of people using it, and Otherworlders coming in using their own magic and learning Fellden magic. All of this is draining magic at a faster rate as 98% of all life is now constrained to the last remaining habitable continent.
Q: What are the details that make the summoning ceremony specifically such a drain? A: The professor will be vague but say that supposedly moving between Fellden and Otherworlds, paired with allowing Otherworlders to walk between worlds, is the largest drain of magic. Crossing universes takes a lot of work!
There are people studying how to cycle the magic/mana back into Fellden more effectively once again but it's very slow going as people still have to use magic in order to place it back into the world!
Q: Who is researching it? A: Syrlya is one PC working on it. He has a research team in R&D who works on tracing the flow of magic, their group has an off-shoot that focuses on how to return magic to the world. There's also rumor that Temperance is doing something similar but the professor has almost no information on that aside from the rumor itself–Temperance is a sensitive subject!
* QUEST ASSIGNMENT: (Screened) Link. * QUEST LOG:Link. * QUEST MEMBERS: V, Ashe, Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji * QUEST OBJECTIVE: Venture to the Abandoned Manor on the Western Isles, investigate the library, and survive. * QUEST REWARD: V will now have one third of a weapon that can be reconstructed to use against the summoning ceremony. It will take the place of two mages in the requirements but he must convince the other group members to give him their pieces. The Warlock will provide reconstruction of the scepter but it will come with the warning that it will be powered by using the life force of its wielder. Dangerous!
V will also receive a pendant from the Warlock that will give him a one minute immunity to the power of the glaivewrung, ten gold pieces, and the scepter once it is reconstructed.
Additionally, while V's impact rank will not increase, he will be granted a new title on the Impact Pantheon.
Creature unknown to the rest of the main continent. Now lives in the Abandoned Manor of the Western Isles. Won't threaten the mainland.
Wards can be acquired to resist its effects for a short amount of time. Its main observed effect is to consume the will power of those who come close to it, at a fairly large range.
Difficult to kill alone, even after you have adjusted to the status effect.
